Head of Communications at Uppsala Monitoring Centre
Uppsala Monitoring Centre (UMC) is a foundation set up in 1978 with the aim of improving medicines safety worldwide. In its role as a Collaborating Centre to the World Health Organization (WHO) UMC manages the technical and scientific operations of the WHO Programme for International Drug Monitoring, which was set up after the thalidomide disaster in the 1960s.
Today UMC is a centre for international service and scientific research in pharmacovigilance. Their priorities are the safety of patients through the safe and effective use of medicines in every part of the world.
UMC meets these priorities through innovative research and development, and by providing data, reference, consultative and training resources to medicines regulatory agencies, health professionals, researchers and the pharmaceutical industry all over the world. With a track record of several decades, they are a reliable partner for the wide range of users of their high quality products and services.
UMC's Vision is to improve worldwide patient safety and welfare by reducing the risk of medicines.
The Head of Communications shall develop a world-class communications strategy for the Uppsala Monitoring Centre (UMC) by directly managing communications activities that promote, enhance, and protect the organisation's reputation as a centre of excellence for pharmacovigilance. The aim is to work with the UMC brand and tell the world about the UMC and its story.
She/he will be an ambassador for the organisation and will need to build relationships with the media and key stakeholders in the corporate and regulatory arenas, including member countries of the WHO Programme for International Drug Monitoring and pharmaceutical industry. The goal is to advance the organization's position with relevant constituents, as well as to drive broader awareness for the organization and its vision.
The Head of Communications will report directly to the Chief Operations Officer. The position will be based at HQ in Uppsala.
He or she will have impeccable spoken and written skills in English and a track-record of achievement in national and/or international relations and PR. A background in science or medicine is not an essential requirement for a quick-witted, intelligent, fast learner.
